Who’s ready for pumpkin everything? Here comes fall!
Here in Chicagoland fall is in the air and my body is ready! I love each season except for maybe winter. The only thing winter is good for is snow activities like skiing with my peeps, Christmas and huddling under a bunch of blankets next to a fire.
For me, fall always comes as a welcome relief because I’m usually over the hot and sticky summer weather. Especially this summer because crutches and 90-degree weather do NOT mix. Cooler weather means less sweaty hiking, apple picking, hot apple cider drinking, and so many other fun autumnal activities. Plus, fall fashion is the bomb.
So why is fall all that and a bag of chips? Listen up!

I would be happy if the year comprised of six months of Halloween, one of Christmas and another five months of Halloween. No jokes.
Halloween is my second favorite holiday and way less pressure filled than Christmas. I have way too much fun (and spend way too much time at Michael’s) decorating my apartment with crafts from Pinterest and thinking more about what I’m going to dress Echo up as than I do on my own costume.
This year though my new job has a cubicle decorating contest and a costume contest so I plan on using my boyfriend’s crafting skills to go crazy. I already have my whole design picked out and I can’t wait to show y’all the finished product.
I will finally, finally, finally be able to get off these dang crutches after a total of 1.5 months this year and I plan on spending a lot of time outside. Hiking when the leaves begin to change colors and crunch under my feet fills me with such a sense of joy. The arboretum near us has a ton of different outdoor activities and I can’t think of anything better than sipping hot apple cider while strolling down their paths.
Also, bonfires, smores and good friends telling ghost stories. Need I say more? No, but I will! Corn mazes, apple picking, pumpkin picking and hayrides.
Even chores are more fun in the fall. My mom never had to ask me twice to rake the leaves.
Layers, plaid and tights, oh my!
I am a boot fanatic so as soon as there’s a chill in the air my boots come out to play. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale always gets me super hyped for fall fashion, but then I have to wait like two months before I can actually wear the clothing I get. #firstworldproblems
Plaid skirts with tights also are pretty high up on my favorites list right along with the color maroon. I am a creature of habit and I wear that dark maroon shade as often in fall and winter as I wear hot pink in spring and summer. I’m a huge proponent of sticking with what you know works.
Can we double the months in fall so I can wear my outfits more? Pretty please with pumpkin spice on top?
Scary (or not too scary movies)-
This year I’m going to introduce my boyfriend to the Scream series for the first time and of course Halloween too in anticipation of the new release coming out this year! With all the scary movies we watch I’m amazed he’s never seen either. Sacrilege!
I am a huge sucker for movies that make me view them through a crack in my fingers or pee myself a little (sorry not sorry).
It got to 60 degrees yesterday and my roommate and I were both hankering for some chili. This weather puts me in such a mood for hot, hearty and nutritious meals. I love chili, stir-fry, roasted chicken, root vegetable medleys and anything with pumpkin. I find it so much easier to incorporate veggies in these types of meals too.
My crockpot loves fall but it gets to come out for some tasty fun a whole lot more!
I like iced coffee, but I live for scalding hot lattes that I make with my Nespresso machine. I purchase pods from Hiline and save a ton more money than if I went to Starbucks every day. Also, there is NO contest between delicious hot apple cider and that gross cold stuff. No thank you!
I know when people call up images of summer in their brains they see typically see themselves laying out on a beach towel, soaking up the rays and the latest beach read. For me though, summer is always so packed with activities I feel like I have no time to breathe. While the activities are fun having to run from one to the next can create a whole lot of stress.
Fall for some reason has always been slower paced for me. Instead of stopping to smell the flowers I stop to crunch the leaves. I love taking photos of trees as the leaves change and documenting my explorations.
I also always feel super productive and it’s actually fun to write outside with the wind keeping you cool while you’re all bundled up in your boyfriend’s warm sweatshirt that you may or may not have stolen. It’s no coincidence that my grades were always far better the first semester than the second.
I feel super mindful in the fall and I love it!
Bye-bye to closed windows, stale air and air conditioning that always makes you too cold. When fall hits I can open up all the windows in my apartment and get a nice breeze going. It’s been scientifically proven that humans are happier the more time they spend in nature and, since I enjoy the comforts of living indoors, this is the next best thing!
Okay, I realize candles aren’t fall specific BUT aren’t they so much more fun when it’s colder out? Curling up on my couch with a thriller, my favorite candle from Bath and Body Works and a hot cup of tea is my jam.
Sidenote: If you haven’t checked out Bath and Body Works fall collection of candles please do. Immediately. They are amazeballs.
What do you look forward to when fall starts to come around? Also, all you scary movie lovers out there, which new release are you looking forward to the most this Halloween season? Netflix looks like they have an awesome lineup coming out!
