Welcome to another great guest post by Amy Mia Goldsmith! I know I can always depend on her for some great fashion advice and she definitely brought her A-game this time with her tips on how to look good in the heat.
I know that I could be wearing head-to-toe couture and I would still look a straight up mess in this 90 degree Chicago heat if I wasn’t careful. I’ll definitely be putting these tips and tricks to good use since this summer has been brutal. I’m not complaining though! I’d much rather have hot weather than cold.
So if you want to look good in the heat keep reading!

Summer is great. For the most part. But unless you’re sipping iced Mai Tais as you lounge on a beach and feel the cool ocean breeze caressing your feet, it can also be kind of terrible. Vacations in Barbados? Yes, please! Going through a day that’s making you feel like you’re swimming through a plate of hot soup because of how humid, sticky, and warm it is? Eh, not so much. Put public transport into that picture, or broken A/C at the office, and you’ve got a less than pleasant scenario that almost makes you want to give up on fashion entirely. Almost. But your diva style is strong, and your heart yearns for some cute wardrobe to show off. Well, don’t worry, that’s why we’re here. For gals who want to look pretty despite the sweltering heat, here are some styling suggestions that you’re gonna love!
Oversized Dress Shirts
Oversized dress shirts are a great way to look good in the heat. Shift dresses also work, but button-down dresses with short sleeves have a certain polish to them that will make you look put together even though you barely spent five minutes on your summer wardrobe.
You can wear them with summer boots, low-heeled mules, or even pumps if you want a bit more oomph, and if you pick something white then you can pretty much style it any way you like. Do make sure you wear jewelry and lipstick with this if you want to avoid making the garment look too much like a night dress.
Invest in good underwear
It’s hard to look good in the heat when you feel like a sweaty mess. Good underwear is always good to have, but it’s particularly important in summer when you want to let your skin breathe. Have a few strapless bras for all those off-the-shoulder tops and dresses that you like to rock, and definitely wear seamless garments that won’t poke through your clothes and be obvious to anyone who looks. After all, there aren’t many layers to hide us in the summer.
Keep a cardigan in your bag
Walking out of your apartment and into the street feel like stepping into a giant oven and you’re supposed to get to work in something professional-looking. Do you end up breaking the dress code, or do you respect it and show up there with your hair sticking to your forehead and sweat glistening on your chest? Neither! Wear a light, fit-and-flare sleeveless dress to work through the town, and when you reach the office throw a cute cardigan (or a blazer) over your shoulders. It will make your outfit perfectly professional without any effort.Maxi dresses and slides
Maxi dresses and slides
Maxi dresses are like the biggest hack for summer because there’s nothing that feels quite as breezy as those long, flowy dresses with nice prints. They’re cute as hell, they hide problem areas quite well, and they’ll make you feel light, feminine, and happy. You can choose from a multitude of cuts and designs – after all, women’s clothing is beautiful and varied today and anyone can find something to suit their taste. If you wear a maxi dress with a pair of easy slides you’ll feel extra comfortable, but you can also make it a little more stylish by picking out a pair of leather sandals, wedge heels, or old-school Mary Janes. With a messy bun or loose curls, you’ll look perfect.
Another tip that could be useful for ladies who need something classy for the office – try culottes. They’re usually made of loose, breezy fabric, and they’re definitely demure enough for the workspace. Unless your company is very strict about the dress code, a pair of culottes could be an excellent choice, especially if you pair them with a more form-fitting top and a slim blazer.
I can attest that maxi dresses and slides work great for keeping you cool because I’ve been living in them for the last month! I have been living in maxi dresses and slides all summer long. There’s just so many options and it’s so easy to look like you’re putting in an effort even though you just grabbed the first clean dress you had (guilty!).
With these tips and tricks on how to look good in the heat, you will look fab even in 90-degree weather!
